Czech for Foreigners
The website www.cestina-pro-cizince.cz (www.check-your-czech.com) has been operated by the Research Institute of Education in Prague since June 2008 as commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The portal is thematically oriented mainly on the examination in the Czech language on the Level A1 according to the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) as a condition for the permanent residence of aliens in the Czech Republic. As of January 2009, successful completion of the examination is a prerequisite for an alien to obtain a permit for permanent residence in the Czech Republic.
The website provides information on how to prepare for the examination (you can test your knowledge in the so-called Sample Examination), what its rules are and where the examination can be taken (with the list of schools being divided by region). The website includes also an overview of the schools which prepare people for the examination. Further useful links, dealing with permanent residence permit, voucher for a free examination etc. are also available.
All the texts are in Czech and in English, selected information also in French, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Mongolian and Arabic. The Research Institute of Education has also arranged a toll-free telephone line (in Czech, English and Russian) and information flyers in several language versions.
The website of Czech for Foreigners is intended for the teachers and examiners as well, who can find i.a. also the Methodology for Teaching Czech here. The Research Institute of Education has sent this methodology (on a CD) at no charge to all the schools authorised to examine Czech for foreigners and has also organised training for its teachers.
